Solar energy conversion to chemical energy and electric power

The Division of Solar Energy Conversion Research has been investigating innovative photocatalytic materials for the conversion of solar energy to hydrogen through a water-splitting reaction and to chemical fuels, such as formic acid, methanol, methane, and hydrocarbons, through carbon dioxide fixation. In addition, the utilization of unused, ambient thermal energy for energy harvesting is also being performed through the thermoelectric effect.
